Catford & Cyphers Cricket Club Juniors - Our Values
We know that cricket is important and winning is great, but the best thing we can do as a club, coaches, parents and players is to create a community where we connect through values and mindset. We’d rather have a club with strong values and happier, improving players, than a club that only cares about winning at all costs.
These values represent our club, the way we want our kids to think about the game, the way we want our parents to watch the game, and how we want to be perceived by those who visit.
-----
Positive progress
We play positive, aggressive cricket which allows players to push beyond what they think is possible. The vibe we give off should always remain positive whether we win or lose. From the way we speak on the field, to the way we hold ourselves when things aren’t going our way, these should always reflect a positive attitude. A bit of banter is fine, abusive sledging is not.
Relentlessly at our best
We will all improve by relentlessly committing to our teammates, the club, and the coaches. This commitment keeps us all honest and enables us to play as well as we can. We take responsibility for how we show up to play, train and support. When we’re on the field we commit to be at our best every ball in every innings.
Sticking together
We are all in this together. We support each other until the last ball is bowled or last run is scored. We don’t moan when a catch is dropped or a runout isn’t completed, we pick the person up, give them encouragement and help them do their best next time. We sit and watch our teammates bat each and every innings. We cheer their successes as much as our own. Team first, individual second.
Raising the standard
We’re a proud club with a long history and we should continue to set standards for the way we show up on the field, and the way we leave it after. We carry our own bags, we tuck in our shirts when we play, we always remove our hats when shaking hands at the end, we never throw our bat or our equipment, and we always accept an umpire’s decision without question.
High standards are contagious, but the same can be said for low standards.
Remaining grateful
We should all be thankful for the effort that goes into a game, a season and this club. From the parents who get you to games, to any match officials who give up their time, to the groundsman who crafts the pitches, to our coaches who want us at our best, they are all contributing to give players the opportunity to play. We need to be thankful, also, and welcoming of our opposition, celebrating their good play, applauding great shots, or great moments.
That’s part of the spirit of cricket and it matters.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
