Selection Policy

1.      Selection Committee

1.1    Selection for all Saturday league fixtures will be made by the selection committee which consists of the cricket manager and all senior captains

1.2     In the event of an unresolved disagreement within the selection committee the decision of the cricket manager will be final, in extreme disagreement the final decision lies with the club chairman.

2.      Team Goals

2.1     1st to play within the highest possible division, therefore the team result will be the priority and selections decisions will be made around this

2.2    2nd XI to compete in a division that minimises the gap to 1st XI standard whilst developing those players with the potential to play 1st XI cricket.

2.3     3rd XI to compete in a division that minimises the gap to 2nd XI cricket whilst providing the opportunities for young & talented players in more competitive senior cricket fixtures

2.4     4th XI to compete in a division that minimises the gap to 3rd XI cricket whilst providing Junior members with a bridge from Junior cricket into Senior cricket.

3.      Selection Policy

3.1     Selection meetings will be held Tuesdays before the weekend fixtures, players are therefore required to update their availability on Teamo by no later than 6.00pm each Wednesday

3.2     The selection policy is that the priority is to field the strongest 1st XI team from members available, followed by the strongest 2nd XI, then the strongest 3rd XI and the strongest 4th XI. Consideration will be given by the selection committee to team balance, performances, a record of availability, attitude on/off the field, conduct on/off the field and the development of young players.

3.3    Decisions will be made primarily for the benefit of the club and the success of the 1st XI. After this, the selection committee will seek to look after the needs of its playing members. Where possible, those consistently available players will be selected in favour of those with erratic availability. It is accepted that younger players may be at school or University and therefore unavailable in the first few weeks of the league season. Such absences will not impact their selection for the later part of the season.

3.4     Available players are expected to accept selection regardless of which team they have been selected to play for, it is unacceptable for a player to refuse to play based on the team

they have been selected for. All members play for Catford & Cyphers CC, not a particular team within the club structure.

3.5     Should players have any issues with selection, they should speak to the captain of the team whom they are selected for, in the first instance. If an issue remains, they should contact the club’s cricket manager.

3.6     Where a player moves up from a particular XI, the team captain will make every effort to ensure that person fully participates in the match and that the player promoted is given a sequence of games in the higher team where possible, however, may not always be possible in extreme circumstances.

3.7     Players who are moved down an XI will receive communication from the relevant captain informing them why they have been moved down and given advice/targets/ what they need to do to be selected again in the higher XI.

4. Other Considerations

4.1     Non-payment of annual subs and registration by 31st May 2023 will result in potential non-selection until subs are paid as annual subscriptions constitute the membership of the club.

4.2     Non-payment of match fees from the previous week will also result in potential non-selection until the outstanding match fees have been paid in full.

4.3     All teams will be confirmed on Teamo on by Noon on the Thursday before the weekend fixtures.

4.4     Once selected and informed, a player who refuses to play for the team in which they are selected, without good reason, may forfeit their rights to future selection.

4.5     Should a player drop out after teams have been confirmed, the then of the team should select from the team immediately below in consultation with that team captain and cricket manager. Except in special circumstances, players not should be moved up two teams within the structure.

4.6     Should a player become available after the selection meeting, they will only be selected should a withdrawal occur or if the 4th XI is short of players.
