Brockley CC Clinches Victory Against Catford and Cyphers CC - Sunday 1st XI in Friendly Encounter

In a friendly cricket match held at Rubens Street on Sunday, May 12th, 2024, Brockley CC emerged victorious against Catford and Cyphers CC - Sunday 1st XI. The toss favoured Catford and Cyphers CC, who elected to bat first under the sunny skies.

Catford and Cyphers CC struggled to find their footing against Brockley CC's bowling attack. Opening batsman James Stewart fell early, bowled by an uncredited bowler for just 2 runs. Despite Bill Perera's resistance with 15 runs and Shar Khan's contribution of 22 runs, wickets fell at regular intervals. The innings was steadied by a solid half-century from Michael Sturdy on his club debut, who scored 51 runs off 65 balls, including seven boundaries and a six. However, Catford and Cyphers CC could only muster a total of 133 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 40 overs.

Brockley CC's bowling unit displayed discipline and skill, with Yogesh Gavali being the most successful bowler, claiming 3 wickets for 29 runs in his 7.3 overs. Ramesh Pandi and Matt King supported well, taking 2 wickets each.

Chasing a target of 134 runs for victory, Brockley CC got off to a solid start with opener Rob Miller scoring 17 runs before being bowled by Shar Khan. However, Ramesh Pandi and Josh McDonald took charge of the innings with brilliant batting performances. Ramesh Pandi remained unbeaten with a well-compiled 55 runs, while Josh McDonald's aggressive knock of 57 runs off just 24 balls ensured Brockley CC reached the target comfortably in just 20.4 overs with 9 wickets in hand.

Catford and Cyphers CC's bowling efforts couldn't contain the onslaught from Brockley CC's batsmen. Shar Khan was the only wicket-taker for Catford and Cyphers CC, claiming 1 wicket for 21 runs.

Despite the defeat, Catford and Cyphers CC can take positives from individual performances and look forward to rectifying their flaws in upcoming fixtures.
